ABOUT

Sofía Lens and Carlos Canella are two Madrid-based architects interested in a light-hearted, unorthodox, experimental -and sometimes ironic- approach to common architecture practice.

Sofía Lens (Vigo, 1990) graduated from Technical University of Madrid in 2017. As a student she worked for the Cultural Landscape Research Group as a research assistant for several exhibitions and publications. Her final thesis project, “Cines de Madrid 1896-2016”, was granted honors and is currently being shown as part of the Spanish Pavilion exhibition at the 2018 Venice Biennale. As an architect, she has worked at 山本理顕 Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop (Yokohama, Japan) in 2016 and Ábalos+Sentkiewicz in Madrid since 2017. She is also co-editor of BigMat International Architecture Agenda, BMIAA, an online mag covering architecture events all around Europe, since 2014.

Carlos Canella (Oviedo, 1991) graduated from Technical University of Madrid in 2016. As a student he worked in different editions of books and educative support within the PROLAB research group. His final thesis project “Respiratory Tracts”, under the direction of Juan Herreros, was awarded with the COAM Final Thesis Prize and is currently being shown as part of the Spanish Pavilion exhibition at the 2018 Venice Biennale. He was an intern at FRPO in 2012 and OSS in 2015. As an architect, he has worked at 山本理顕 Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop (Yokohama, Japan) in 2016 and estudioHerreros in Madrid since 2017. He is also co-editor of BMIAA online agenda.
